Andre Walsh and Vanessa Henry Named MEAC Athletes of the Week

Princess Anne, Md. - Two University of Maryland Eastern Shore Indoor Track & Field athletes received Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference recognition Thursday. Vanessa Henry and Andre Walsh were named MEAC Track & Field Athlete of the Week. The conference office made the announcement.

Walsh earned the honor after a stellar performance at the Great Dane Classic hosted by the University of Albany. He ran a 6.82-second 60-meter dash which he finished first, and won the 200m with a time of 21.17. Walsh is currently ranked second in the country in the 200m.

In four consecutive meets Henry has thrown for a UMES or meet record, and did so again in the Great Dane Classic. Henry took first place in the shot put and weight throw events. Having thrown a distance of 16.50m gave her first in the shot put, while her 19.25m toss in the weight throw ranks her 11th nationally. Henry is ranked seventh in the shot put. This marks the second consecutive week Henry has received conference athlete of the
week honors.

Henry and Walsh led UMES to a second place finish for their respective teams out of at least 20 schools on both sides. UMES will compete in the upcoming Millrose Games
(Jan. 28).
