Lady Rams 4x400m Relay Wins at 2012 Christopher Newport Invitational Trevin Goodwin 01/21/12 WSSU indoor track & field teams close out two-day event in style NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams closed out the 2012 Captain’s Invitational with some great performances. Both the Rams and Lady Rams posted great times and finishes in their third meet of the season. The Lady Rams 4x400m relay team took center stage, winning their event with a 3:56.04. Individually, WSSU senior sprinter Shanika Lamons stepped to the forefront early when she placed third in the women’s 60m dash. She recorded a 7.81 to lead all collegiate runners at the event. She also had a great effort in the women’s 200m dash with a 25.79 to finish fifth in the event. Sophomore Brittney Killebrew added a fifth-place finish in the women’s 800m run. She completed the event in 2:20.71. Also, WSSU junior Gabriel Mitchell also had a great day, placing 6th in the women’s 400m run. She finished the event in 1:00.58. The Rams also had a great day as well with WSSU freshman Michael Neal placing fourth in the men’s 200m dash with a 22.38. Senior Desmond Wiggan also had a great day, placing fourth in the men’s 800m run with a 1:57.14. The Rams’ 4x400m relay team gave a solid effort as well, placing third in the event with a 3:24.14 in the event. The Rams and Lady Rams will return to action next weekend when they take part in the 2012 Liberty Open at the Tolsma Field House in Lynchburg, Virginia. |
