Shaw’s Alvin Earns Two CIAA Honors Sherri Fillingham 01/16/12 [Raleigh, NC] – Shaw’s Malik Alvin was named CIAA Player of the Week and CIAA Newcomer of the week in recognition of his performance in Shaw’s three wins this past week. Alvin (Sr., G, 6-4, 180) continued to pace the Shaw offense, averaging 22 points a game in Shaw's three victories. On the week, he shot 65.7 percent, including 52.9 percent from beyond the three-point arc. In Shaw's 103-89 win over Chowan, Alvin scored 28 points - the fourth time this season he hit the 28-point mark. He also added six assists in that performance. The Bears won all three of their games – all conference matchups – this past week. On Monday, they downed Virginia Union 63-60. Three days later, they downed #12 Bowie State 83-73 and on Saturday, they broke the century mark, outscoring Chowan 103-89. On the season, the Bears are 12-2, 4-0 in the CIAA. The Bears return home on Thursday to host Lincoln (PA). The game is the second half of a doubleheader with the women’s team. Approximate tip is at 7:30 p.m.
