Shaw's Sequoyah Griffin Named CIAA Newcomer of the Week Sherri Fillingham 01/09/12 [Raleigh, NC] - Shaw's Sequoyah Griffin was today named CIAA Newcomer of the Week in recognition of her double-double in Shaw's win over Virginia State on Saturday. Griffin (Jr., G, 5-9, Columbus, GA) had a breakout game for the Lady Bears with a double-double that helped lift Shaw past Virginia State 73-60 in the squad's CIAA opener. With 12 points and 10 rebounds, she led both squads in rebounding. With the win on Saturday, the Lady Bears evened their season record to 5-5. The team is 1-0 in the CIAA. The Lady Bears return to action Monday when they host Virginia Union. Tip is at 6:00 p.m. at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on the Shaw campus. On Thursday, Shaw will host Bowie State in a 6:00 p.m. contest.
