Reigning CIAA Player of the Week Dominant in Lady Vikings’ Road Win

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Stephanie Harper posted her second straight 20/20 double-double as Elizabeth City State University toppled Fayetteville State University 63-50 Monday evening at F.J. Capel Arena.

As an encore to her 20 point 21 rebound outing versus Johnson C. Smith on Saturday, Harper hung 21 points on the Lady Broncos as set a new career high with 25 rebounds.

She netted 17 of her game high 21 points in the second half, where the Lady Vikings outscored FSU 39-27.

With 8:42 left in the game ECSU led 44-37 before mini FSU run, capped by a Tashama Banner layup, pulled the Lady Broncos within a point 46-45 at the 6:37 mark. The Lady Broncos rally ended there as they would not hit another shot from the field except a jumper with 6 seconds left with the game’s outcome already decided.

The Lady Broncos (6-6, 0-3) had a horrendous shooting night from the free throw line, sinking only 6 of 23 attempts.

Harper converted a three-point play on a layup and a free throw with 3:10 left to put ECSU up 53-47. The Lady Vikings would go 8-8 from the free throw line in the closing minutes and add a layup by Whitney Gray to seal the win.

Jasmine Whitehurst was the only ECSU player in double figures with 14 points. Akysia Resper topped Fayetteville State with 16 points.

ECSU (8-5, CIAA 2-1) will return to action when they host Winston-Salem State at the RL Vaughan Center on Saturday, January 14. Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm.
