Simmons, Hall double up to collect GCAC weekly awards -

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of
Louisiana's Anthony Simmons and Keldra Hall swept the Gulf Coast
Athletic Conference Player of the Week basketball awards for
Nov. 29-Dec. 5. They recorded a combined three double-doubles
during the week.
Simmons, a 6-foot-8 sophomore forward from Rochester, N.Y., and
a graduate of Allendale Columbia School, had career-highs of 19
points and 13 rebounds in a 70-63 home victory against
Talladega. Hall, a 6-foot junior center from Dallas and a
graduate of Molina High School and Angelina College, averaged
11.3 points and 8.7 rebounds in three games. Hall had 10 points
and 11 rebounds in a
home victory against LSU-Shreveport and 16 points and 11
rebounds in a victory at Florida Memorial. The 11 rebounds match
her career best.
Simmons is averaging 11.2 points and a team-best seven rebounds
in nine games this season. Hall is averaging eight points and a
team-leading seven rebounds in 12 games.
This is the first time this season that a Gold Rush player won
the GCAC award. It's the second straight week that Hall won the
women's award and the fourth time in six weeks that the Gold
Nuggets earned the honor. Senior forward/guard Christina Warren
was chosen for Oct. 25-31, and junior guard Jasmine Grant was
chosen for Nov. 15-21.
The next XU men's game will start at 4 p.m. Dec. 18 at William
Carey. The next XU women's game will start at 7 p.m. EST Dec. 16
at Webber International. The Gold Rush are 10-0 and ranked 10th
in NAIA Division I, and the Gold Nuggets are 10-2 and ranked
17th. |
