Quartet breaks 40-second mark in quest for National Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's 4x100 relay
finished 11th overall with a mark of 39.76 Saturday evening at the NCAA Division I Outdoor
Track and Field Eastern Regional at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina
A&T State University.

Out of 24 teams competing, the top 12 advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be
held June 9-12 at the University of Oregon's historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

The quartet of junior Thomas Keane-Dawes (Camden, N.C.), senior Allodin Fothergill
(New Hempstead, N.Y.) and sophomore Damian Miles (Teaneck, N.J.) and Akheem
Gauntlett (Roselle, N.J.) broke their own school record with the time of 39.76. The previous
record of 40.01 was set at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships earlier this
month.

"The Eastern Regional is a very difficult one and the guys did an outstanding job today," said
head coach Ernest Barrett. "If you factor in the Western Regional results, we are one of the
top 16 teams in the country and anything can happen from here. We're looking forward to
traveling to Eugene and making the university proud."

The relay joins sophomore Cynthia Anais (Martinique, France) who qualified for Nationals
in the women's 800-meter run Friday with her school-record time of 2:05.33.
