Tigers Fight for a SWAC Championship Bid comes to an End Rodney Bush 05/29/10 Shreveport, LA- The Texas Southern Tiger’s fight for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Baseball Championship Title ended tonight in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Tigers fell to Grambling State 2-7 in the second game they played today. TSU got to this stage by beating Mississippi Valley on Thursday and Alabama State this morning. Texas Southern played tough, but just could not get their bats going when they needed them the most. Both teams scored runs in the first two innings for a 2-2 tie. The game stayed that way until the 5th inning when Grambling picked up four runs. GSU added one more score in the 6th inning for a 7-2 advantage. Texas Southern got into scoring position several times but could not get their men across home plate. Michael Norris got TSU’s lone RBI. Kerry White went three for four at the plate with one run. Starting pitcher Adrian Losoya had three strikeouts in 5 innings. Abel Flores had four strikeouts in three innings. TSU ends the season with a 30-26 record, the best since the university began competing in NCAA Division I sports. They also captured the SWAC Western Division Title and four players were named to the 2010 All-SWAC team. 2010 did not end as the Tigers had hoped, but the future looks bright for head coach Michael Robinson, his staff and players. |
