SC State Track Competitors Fail to Advance at NCAA Track William Hamilton 05/27/10 GREENSBORO, NC – Thursday’s opening day of the NCAA East Preliminary Track & Field Competition at the Irwin Belk Track on the North Carolina A&T campus was not a good one for South Carolina State as none of the university’s five competitors in action advanced. SC State, however, still has an opportunity to send some student-athletes to the June 9-12 NCAA National Championship at Eugene, Ore. Remaining in competition for Coach Tyree Price’s squads are the 4x100 meter relay team of Arnetra Frazier, Monique Gracia, Alexandria Jones and Nicole Mobley, which competes on Saturday, triple jumpers Jasmine Smith and Marcus Stephens, who also swing into action Saturday, and Jones in the 200 meters and Gracia in the 100-meter hurdles, who will be in action Friday. Failing to advance Thursday were Shamire Rothmiller in the shot put, Jones in the 400 meters, Frazier in the 100 meters, Aubrey Lemon in the 100 meters and Levar Knight in the long jump. Jones came closest to advancing Thursday as she had the 25th fastest time in the 400 meters, however, only 24 moved on. The final qualifier had a time of 54.38, while Jones was clocked at 54.40. |
