Lady Rams Take 5-0 Loss at Florida A&M

WSSU manages four hits in tough loss

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (3-14) couldn’t find an answer for the Florida A&M Lady Rattlers (17-15) in a 5-0 loss, Friday afternoon. After struggling in the first game of the doubleheader, the Lady Rams had a better performance in the second game, but could not get across the plate in their second shutout loss of the day.

The Lady Rams picked up their offensive efforts with four hits in the game, but the team could not match Florida A&M who recorded eight hits. The team did put up a solid defensive effort , turning three double plays in the loss, but could not get things going offensively.

The WSSU defense held Florida A&M to one run in each of the first two innings of the game. An RBI single in the first inning and a second inning passed ball allowed the two scores to the Lady Rattlers. A WSSU wild pitch allowed FAMU’s third score of the game while a two-RBI single sealed the scoring of the game and left the Lady Rams with the 5-0 loss.

Freshman pitcher Tiffany Burgess (1-6) took the pitching loss for the Lady Rams, going four and one-thirds innings for the Lady Rams and finished with six hits allowed and one strikeout. She also added five walks and a wild pitch. Fellow freshman Brittany Lane finished the pitching effort.

The Lady Rams will get one more chance against the Lady Rattlers when the two teams close out their weekend series with a noon game tomorrow.
