XU's Danielle Jones is an NAIA Scholar-Athlete

NEW ORLEANS -- Xavier University of Louisiana's Danielle Jones is one of 120 Division I women's basketball players named a 2009-10 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete. The NAIA announced the list Monday.Jones is a 5-foot-9 forward from Baton Rouge, La., and a 2007 graduate of Episcopal High School. 

She qualified for the team with a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 and junior academic status. Jones averaged 4.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 34 games this season to help the Gold Nuggets (28-6) win Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships and receive an automatic bid to the NAIA Division I National Championship.

Jones is the second Xavier women's basketball player to earn this honor. Portia Jones (no relation) did it in 2001-02 and 2002-03.Five GCAC women's basketball players earned the honor this season. The others are Syrena Edwards of Dillard, Lynleigh Hughes and Kristi Ybarra of Spring Hill and Britta Stephens of William Carey.
