WSSU allows seven seventh-inning runs in loss

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-8) gave a great effort, but fell short in an 8-1 loss to the Campbell Camels (8-15-1), Friday evening at Randy Jones Field. The Lady Rams had a great six-inning effort, taking a 2-1 deficit into the seventh inning, but the team allowed six seventh-inning runs to finish the day with the loss. The loss came in spite of a great defensive effort by the Lady Rams who held Campbell to just four hits heading into the seventh inning. However, the five seventh-inning hits allowed six Campbell runs to cross the plate in the inning.

As a team, the Lady Rams allowed nine hits to the Camels while managing just five hits. The team had some defensive struggles with a pair of fielding errors as well. WSSU junior catcher Kayla Woodbury led the way for the Lady Rams with a one-out triple in the sixth inning. She was able to cross the plate and gave the Lady Rams their sole score of the game. Senior infielder Whitney Hall also went 1-for-4 from the plate and had the only WSSU RBI of the game.

WSSU freshman pitcher Brittany Lane (1-4) took the pitching loss, going all seven innings and allowed nine hits to the Camels. She added seven strikeouts and allowed just three walks.

The Lady Rams would go on to complete the doubleheader taking on the Camels shortly after.
