Former NCCU Golfer To Face Top-Seed Saturday Morning at Hillandale Golf Club

DURHAM, N.C. - Former North Carolina Central University golfer Chris Winters won his third straight match on Friday to advance to the championship flight semifinals of the 63rd Herald-Sun Golf Classic on Saturday morning.

Winters, a native of Durham, N.C., and the No. 4 seed in the event, will face the top-seeded golfer Will Bowman at 9:12 a.m. on Saturday. The winner will advance to the title match on Sunday.

After posting scores of 67 and 71 during the qualifying rounds on Monday and Tuesday, Winters won head-to-head matches on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to advance to the semifinals.

Winters completed his NCCU career on May 10 at the 23rd PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla. In that event, Winters tallied a five-under-par 211 (70-69-72), tying for fifth place in the individual standings. He capped his college career in style, sinking a 20-foot birdie putt on his final shot as an NCCU Eagle.
