VSU'S WOODLIN AND WILLIS NAMED TO CIAA COMMISSIONER'S ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS

Virginia State University's Merv Woodlin and Leon Willis were named to
the CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic Team, the CIAA announced on Monday
(June 15).
 
Woodlin was named to the first team while Willis was named to the second
team.
 
Woodlin, a senior outfielder from Philadelphia, Pa., was named the 2009
VSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year in April.. He helped the VSU
baseball team to it's third straight CIAA Tournament Championship
earlier in April. He batted .286 for the Trojans in 2009. He had two
doubles, a triple and a home run while appearing in 25 of VSU's 47 games
this season.
 
Woodlin, who is majoring in Sports Management, is carrying a 3.91 grade
point average.
 
Willis, a senior from Prince Georges, Md., led the VSU men's basketball
team with a 42.3 percent three-point shooting percentage and averaged
6.4 points per game for the Trojans this past season.
 
Willis, who is majoring in Criminal Justice, is carrying a 3.84 GPA.
 
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed one full academic
year at a CIAA institution, earned a minimum 3.20 overall grade point
average and have excelled as a starter or significant reserve in a CIAA
sanctioned sport.
